(Stellenbosch, 1 September 2015) Encouraging visitors to explore the heart of Stellenbosch, Oude Werf Hotel invites guests to celebrate South Africa’s delicious heritage on 19 September, with a special menu of much-loved South African favourites.
This 3-course dinner, including coffee or tea costs R333 per person. Each course will consist of three delicious items, enjoyed with tales of local Stellenbosch history and folklore. To start, diners can look forward to three warming soups – butternut and coconut Soup, Karoo venison biltong and Simonsberg Blue Rock cheese and hearty oxtail.
For the main event, guests will be able to enjoy bite-sized samples of Cape Malay bobotie, chicken pie and oxtail served with yellow rice and seasonal vegetables. For a sweet ending, a dessert platter of ‘Japies Delight’, Hertzoggie and mini milk tart with vanilla pod ice cream, will ensure no one leaves hungry!
Built on the site of South Africa’s first church, ‘the old churchyard’ has transformed into Oude Werf Hotel. Proudly offering guests true winelands hospitality for over two centuries, its blend of rich heritage and modern luxury makes it the perfect choice for guests wishing to explore and embrace aspects of South Africa’s cultural legacy this September.
Centred around Heritage Day on 24 September, Heritage Month is celebrated from 1 – 30 September and recognises all aspects of South African culture – from music and performances, to historical inheritance, our local languages, and of course, the many cuisines we enjoy.
Says Elanie Fourie, General Manager of Oude Werf Hotel, “While we have recently undergone extensive renovations, we have been careful to preserve and celebrate the rich heritage of the property. We can’t imagine a better place to indulge in some of South Africa’s most famous dishes. From Cape Malay curry and traditional milk tart, to rich oxtail and local cheese – we can’t wait to treat guests to a feast of South African flavours!”
